In December 2012, Railroad Construction Company, Inc. was awarded a $7.8 million contract by Jacobs Project Management Company for renovation to seven stations associated with the Amtrak Accessible Stations Development Program. There are four stations located in New York in Port Kent, Fort Ticonderoga, Whitehall and Amsterdam; and three stations in Vermont in St. Albans, Waterbury, and Randolph. All these stations must remain operational while the renovation takes place.
The Railroad Con-struction project team is responsible for managing each project site simultaneously even though there is one to two hours of travel time between them. The project includes phased demolition of the existing train platforms and construction of new platforms, installation of piles, drainage, guard rails, platform lighting and signage. Site work consists of concrete curbs and walkways, asphalt pavement, site lighting and signs.
Six of the stations involve renovations to the building as well. This work includes such items as masonry, carpentry, ceramic tile, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning and electrical work
