NEWARK AIRPORT TERMINAL B INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS MEET & GREET AREA
Project Highlights / Scope of Work
- Renovated Terminal B Arrivals Meet & Greet area in mid level of Newark International Airport
- Installed terrazzo flooring, partitions, ceilings, lighting, sprinkler system, signage and public address system
- Terminal to remain open throughout construction
- Flight delays resulting in changes to scheduled work areas
Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport welcomes 10,000 passengers per day. The terminal, built in 1973, was sorely in need of modernization and by today’s standards lacked some of the most basic features (i.e.-a fire suppression system).
A 40,000 SF area was renovated. New partitions (creating wider corridors) and a new ringed ceiling were constructed. Upgraded lighting, sprinklers and a public address system were installed. A terrazzo floor was built in the vast Meet & Greet concourse. New signage completed the project.
The terminal remained open throughout construction. Despite critical planning, frequent flight delays caused unanticipated foot traffic in areas that had been designated for work. This forced us to quickly adjust our schedule and ultimately develop a backup plan for each day’s activities. Close coordination with the Port Authority and the reorganization of tasks allowed the project to be completed on time.
This renovation has increased both passenger capacity and convenience. The new wider passageways, the enhanced lighting and better placement of signs have improved the flow of traffic for arrivals at Terminal B.
