For the past twenty-one years, Paterson Habitat for Humanity has held their Corporate Challenge, a three-week event where businesses from the tri-state area send volunteers to help construct Habitat homes. In June, Railroad Construction Co. once again participated in the event, sending eleven volunteers to Paterson’s 4th Ward.
Under the direction of a Habitat Project Manager and Superintendent, a new three-story home was being built. Our team worked a four-hour shift performing basic carpentry, concrete prep work and general site maintenance. In the street level garage, stone and special styrofoam fill were laid in preparation for the pouring of the concrete floor. The second story was framed and stringers were hung for future construction of the third floor.
We are proud to join with Paterson Habitat for Humanity in its efforts to revitalize some of Paterson’s oldest neighborhoods. Their mission to eliminate substandard housing and provide decent shelter is one we fully support. Special thanks go to our volunteer workers: Renato Sunga, Greg Fallon, Sally Ortiz, Evan Stracquadanio, Luz Carrillo, Pat Rooney, Amy LaRocco, Gene Sullivan, Rick Bunker, Michael Wierzbicki and Lisa Tackach.
